I'm so grateful this morning

My 9yr old grandson went with his grandfather for the holidays. This morning, on their way back, I received a call from my ex, they just had an accident. He crashed into a big trailer. The impact was so big that the car is a total wreck. My grandson went through the windshield and fell on the roadside. He only lost a tooth and has a couple of cuts and bruises! If that isn't a sign of God's mercy, I don't know what is. No one's suppose to survive a crash like that! God must have sent one of his angels to carry my grandson on his wings.

Praise the Lord. What could have been a very black day in my life has become one of thankfulness.

What makes a person popular?

I think being considerate is the single most important characteristic when it comes to popularity. But then it must be genuine, not because you want to gain something from it.

Rather be early for an appointment than late. I know our celebrity divas think they own the right to be late, but even for them it's a sign of contempt and nothing to be proud of. If you don't have a good reason for being late, the message you send to the one who has to wait for you is: 'This is how little I care for you.'

Ask your domestic helper or the cleaner at your work place about her of his family, and listen because you have to follow it up by inquiring again at a later stage:  'How's Sonja's broken leg doing now?'

Don't gossip maliciously about people because that makes you a worse person than the one your are smearing. A golden rule is: Don't say anything about a person unless you are willing to say it in his or her face. And even then, ask yourself: what am I going to gain from hurting this person?

In heavy traffic or in a long row in a bank or anywhere else, give people a gap. You will make their day and you will feel good about yourself.

Be there for your friends, family and co-workers when they are experiencing tough times. You don't necessarily have to give something, just let them know you are there if they need to talk.

If you borrow something from someone, whether it's a book, a DVD or a container, give it back! There's nothing so annoying than lending out your stuff and then have to struggle to get it back again.

When driving somewhere, always be on the lookout for old people walking, sometimes with heavy parcels. Give them a lift and ask if you can take them for shopping the next time.

Never take people for granted, whether it's your parents, siblings or friends. They all deserve to be treated with respect and consideration.

Yeeaah, I'm a millionaire!!!

Wishful thinking.

Ever tried making money online? Well, I have, still trying to, but not to become a millionaire any more, just to get back the fortune I have spent in vain. (Which reminds me: have to remember to ask Blogger if one can implement a donation box on this site!)

Now, the irony of this money making business is that everyone tries to convince you that if you buy the book they are promoting, you will get rich real quick. And sucker that I am, I fall for it time and again - only to be left with a link filled pamphlet telling me the same story than all the others:  just promote this book and you'll get rich. It's like a pyramid scheme. In the end there are thousands of opportunists sitting with books they can't get rid of.

My father once told me about a man who placed an ad in a news paper, asking a substantial  amount for his 'secret' to get rich fast and without any investment. My father ordered this 'secret' and when he go it, it says: Just do what I did, place an ad like mine! This is what this modern money making schemes remind me of. One big fat lie!

Oh well, I won't give up. Not until have my money back. Yeah, I know, I will probably end up dirt poor and still haven't found that golden 'secret'.

When do you know you're old?

Well, for starters, when you're making lists for everything and can't remember what you've done with the lists.

When, after shopping, you report your car as stolen, just to discover it's still in the garage when you get home. And no, you really can't remember taking the bus!

When the only time you're touching your husband's groin is when you're looking for your misplaced glasses.

When collecting the news paper is the highlight of your day.

When you found your lost keys in the ice compartment of the refrigerator.

When you arrive at the neighbors for the party they've invited you to, just to find out it was a month ago.

When you discover on an outing the reason why people are staring at you is because you have forgotten your skirt after putting on your petticoat.

When a romantic moment between you and your spouse means counting the liver spots on each others hands.

When you cut holes in your shoes to relieve the pressure on your calluses.

So, happy old age!

Gray vs Silver

I prefer silver above gray.  Gray is, well, gray. Dull, colorless, unimaginative and  disconsolate. Buildings are gray. Men's suits are gray. The sky on cloudy days is gray. The winter landscape is gray. Tombstones are gray.

Silver, on the other hand, is soft and shiny. The moon is silver. Dark clouds are outlined by silver. Halos are silver. And let's not forget, coins are made of silver!

So, please take note, I'm not gray-blonde, I'm silver-blonde!

Breast Cancer vs Dairy Products

According to a prof Jane Plant who had breast cancer, she only cut dairy product out of her diet, and after only days the lump in her breast has shrinked. A couple of weeks later there was no sign of cancer in her breast.

If your take in consideration that the Chinese don't consume dairy product, and that only 1 out of 10,000 Chinese women die of breast cancer while in Britain 1 out of 12 women die of it, it make sense. Weight loss in a healthy manner

Let your brain do the slimming

The feeling of feat and desperation after failing yet another diet is no stranger to most
overweight people. Usually you kick off with much enthusiasm, convinced that you have found the ideal diet this time. You follow it to the letter and are encouraged when you start losing weight. But it doesn’t last too long before the cravings begin and, no matter how hard you fight against it, in the end you give in to binge eating again.

What makes matters worse is that every time you failed, you end up with more kilos than you have started with. It’s the same pattern all over again, like so many times before. You are left with feelings of depression and disgust. You hate yourself for being weak and you hate food for being so important yet so destructive in your life. You hate dieting and being fat.

The sad truth is that diets only work as long as you follow them and the reason why it’s so hard to stick to a diet is because your brain is fighting you every step of the way when you are on a diet. It goes into ‘survival mode’ the moment you start dieting, thus slowing down your metabolism and ‘saving’ your fat for the hunger that is to come.

That’s why the best way of losing weight permanently is first of all to quit dieting.

Secondly, stop regarding food as your enemy. And thirdly, don’t obsess about your weight or food. Instead, start giving your brain the ‘right’ messages. Look at it this way: your brain is like the hard drive of a computer, and your thoughts and feelings are the data you feed it. By thinking negatively you are programming your brain for failure. And as long as you continue doing so it will execute this ‘order’.

No matter what you eat, whether it’s something healthy or junk food, enjoy it. The secret is to savor every bite you eat. Don’t gobble it down without tasting it. You will be amazed how much quicker you are going to feel sated. And once in the habit of eating this way weight loss will be inevitable and will become automatic and effortless. You will simply crave less food and healthier food. Your metabolism will speed up end you will become very efficient at burning fat.

Eat whatever you like, but make a point of including something nutritious with every meal.

A deficiency of nutrients will result in your feeling hungry and tired, no matter how many hamburgers, pies or chocolate cake you eat. An important tip: When you eat a fruit, start your meal with it. Then your system will absorb all of the nutrients. Eating it afterward will result in acid forming in your stomach that will destroy most of the nutrients.

Don’t ever allow yourself to get hungry. Eat 5 or 6 small meals a day instead of 1 or 2 big ones. This way your brain will get the message of abundance and you will never feel hungry

while your metabolism will speed up. Most importantly, don’t skip breakfast. If you are not used to eating in the morning, eat at least one fruit. Another tip: use a small plate. This will trick your brain into thinking that you are eating more than you actually do. So, it will not go into survival mode. Also, use a small cake fork so that you get into the habit of taking small bites.

Finally: look at naturally thin people. They don’t have a dysfunctional relationship with
food; they never talk about it constantly or care what or how much they eat. Yet, they are thin. That’s because they are in perfect harmony with their brain!
